All About Noir Fashion Week

By Tyshca Nicole

I had the honor of attending the Second Season of NFWK during New York Fashion Week and I was not disappointed. This production, founded by Nichole Bess, a veteran in the fashion industry, created a space for melanated greatness to shine and I was there for all of it.

This season, she showcased 27 of the hottest designers in the industry, some emerging and some vets in the game. They came, they saw, and conquered the scene.

Everyone did a fantastic job and going through the list of highlights was hard to narrow down. So I am sharing my top five from the weekend!

Media Mixer

We all came together to network and connect. There were media personnel, designers, models, MUAs, stylists, etc. There, I met some amazing people! One person, in particular, was Tiffany Scott. She’s a fashion model, Miss USA Contestant, and represents all things love and light. Our good sis was slaying the runways and spreading her positive spirit along the way. Be sure to follow her and stay connected to see what runway she’ll be walking next.

Along with spreading love and light. It was a sight to see when NWFW BLK gave Shaquita Garcia, designer of AART NYC, her well deserved flowers. If you follow her on IG, you will know her as Thee Mondern House Wife NY. She is just as passionate about her craft as she is everything and everyone else connected to her, so her receiving her flowers was no surprise to us!

This was an opportunity for Black businesses to promote their brands and get the recognition they deserved. Live music and giveaways were on the scene, as well as coco butter, melanin skin, and good vibes!

Ratchet Luxury

They did not come to play with their showcase. They even debuted their women’s wear brand. I say you should jump on their site ASAP and get a head start on your Spring/Summer looks. These are some styles you do not want to miss out on.

Prêt-à-Porter

This showcase featured seven designers who came to show why they deserve the spotlight. Each presentation came with the heat and left us wanting more. Featuring designs from Enjeanious Jewels, Chris Pyrate, 8892, Taylord by God and Lord by God, Safa Designs, Urban Zulu.

The Billboard

One of the highlights of this weekend was the amazing NFWK Billboard. This billboard was Black joy. To know that there is a space for us in the fashion industry shows the progress we’ve made as a people, but also a reminder that there is still much work to be done. I am grateful that Nichole allowed my media platform to grace the presence of excellence and help share her work. We are proud of you sis and the work that you are doing and know that you are not in this alone. Keep shining, we got you!
