Coffea Flair Editorial

Having the right scent to go with your outfit can elevate your look to the next level. Finding the perfect perfume, on the other hand, can be a difficult task. You're in luck, because we have some amazing perfume brands that will turn heads as you walk by.

Maya Njie Perfumes

Maya Njie launched her namesake perfume line in 2016. The aromas are heavily influenced by Maya's Swedish and West African heritage, and the line focuses squarely on handmade blends. She was raised in London after relocating there from Västers, Sweden when she was a teenager.

According to her, they create their own recipes in-house utilizing different types of essential oils, fragrance compounds, and resins. Her works feature a combination of natural and synthetic materials.

KIMBERLY New York

Kimberly Walker, originally from Jamaica, founded Kimberly New York Perfumes in May 2016 in response to a perceived lack of diversity in the premium perfume industry.

"As of 2015, I have been immersed in independent study of fragrance formulation and chemistry. After studying the chemistry of fragrances, I felt inspired to design my very own signature aroma. Artsy eau de parfum was born and is my everyday scent and number one best seller," according to her website.

HIVE Luxury Fragrances

Hive Luxury Fragrances is a Black-owned company that was founded in 2016 by Bambi Montgomery in Chicago. Montgomery claims that the potential to tell her own story through smell and to provide a little more opulence into people's lives was the impetus behind the creation of Hive Luxury Fragrances.

Ovation for Men

Founded by Shawn Crenshaw, Fadelf Jackson, and Cecil Cross, Ovation For Men is a Black-owned fragrance company based in Atlanta that aspires to both honor men of color and address a gap in the market.

According to the company's website, "Team Ovation has become a branding tour de force of innovation and authenticity unrivaled in the fragrance industry by leveraging their collective experience in hospitality, music, entertainment, and marketing."

Chris Collins

Chris Collins, a former male model for Ralph Lauren, started the Black-owned perfume line World Of Chris Collins to honor his passion for high style and his discerning nose for scent. Chris uses his expertise and experience to create perfumes that are both sophisticated and unusual.

Motif Olfactif

Motif Olfactif, founded in 2019 by Oswald Pare, is a black-owned perfume house that sources its perfumes from all around the world.

Burkinabe-born YouTuber Pare discovered the fragrance community and started reviewing scents that he found interesting. Creative and practical fragrances appeal to my sense of smell, and I have a penchant for unusual and sophisticated concoctions.

Savoir Faire

Savoir Faire by Chris Classic was founded in 2017 and is proud to be one of the new Black-owned fragrance brands to emerge in recent years. This Atlanta-based perfume house promotes itself as a "exclusive inclusion" label.

The website for the social networking app Savoir Faire proclaims, "It honors the unique individual talent that you have that allows you to succeed in numerous social circles regardless of skin color, religion, education, or crypto portfolio."

Mair Fragrance

The Texas-based premium perfume business Mair Fragrance is owned by a Black family. Established in 2015 by Mair Emenogu, the business is known for sourcing its rare and exotic ingredients from all around the world.

My goal in launching this line of products was to develop perfumes that wouldn't mask, but rather enhance, a person's individual scent. According to Mair Emenogu, "the individual is the focus, and all other considerations are secondary."

Pink MahogHany

Chavalia Mwamba, a longtime resident of Longview, Texas and a self-taught specialist in the art of niche perfumery, launched Pink MahogHany, a fragrance line that is 100 percent Black-owned.

It was introduced in 2005 with the intention of "courting the skin" and "flirting with the air," thereby starting and continuing a dialogue with grace and sophistication.

Chavalia Mwamba's mission is to disseminate knowledge, be transparent, and inspire trust in the use of aromatic compounds by others.
